Integrated Movement Course  - Gurdjieff Sacred Dances

"The inner—what is it? if not intensified sky, hurled through with birds and deep with the winds of homecoming." - Rilke

Online Gurdjieff Movements

Gurdjieff described himself as a “teacher of dancing.” One of his greatest gifts to us was the group of dances, prayers, and exercises he referred to as “Sacred Dances,” now called the “Movements.”

The Movements provide an opportunity to directly experience, observe, and educate the three major elements related to our functioning: the physical body, the emotional forces, and the intellect. The potential for balance and harmony can be explored in this type of moving meditation.

Elizabeth Schreiber PhD

Elizabeth is a practicing psychologist whose dissertation explored the relationship between movement-based practices and opening to joy. The Movements as brought by G.I. Gurdjieff require us to exercise our attention and through these efforts, we have the possibility of enhancing our relationship to our body as well as developing our body’s innate intelligence.

Dr. Russell Schreiber

Russell is a clinical psychologist and has been involved in the Gurdjieff Work since 1968. He studied with individuals who directly studied with Mr. Gurdjieff. First with Wilhem A. Nyland from 1968 till his death in 1975 and remained active in the Nyland group until 1980. Meeting Annie Lou Staveley in 1982, he was in contact with her regularly until she died in 1996. He has been involved in work groups to develop the deeper aspects of human potential for many years, currently works with a group locally and online, and has taught the Movements for over 40 years.

""A movement practice requires staying present in my body while moving. When completely engaged, my mind cannot operate in its automatic manner, and I have the opportunity to practice a form of self-regulation while in the midst of challenging demands. Some people report feeling spaciousness within their body, others state that the deep joy they experience tells them that they have found home." - Elizabeth Schreiber

About Gurdjieff Movements

The Gurdjieff Movements are an integrative practice. They are not explained in a mental format; they are explored directly and experientially with awareness and intention. Integration—through direct experience—allows personal realizations to enter our being and to organize our understanding in a new way. These movement-based practices may support the education and maturation of the whole human and support the return to a sense of harmony.
